One of if not the first of the beings to be transformed by the waters of Zhouquanxiang, Biànfú Xiá [变福俠] was a painted bat (Kerivoula picta) who had never previously considered the advantages of a human form. The bat began studying martial arts and meditation to cultivate as a jing and attain a permanent human appearance. After years of fighting against evil alongside other heroes like White Snake and Sun Wukong, they eventually attained the form they desired—ironically, using it as their everyday form as the itinerant musician Wen Ruofei [紋若飞], while retaining their 'cursed' form as the identity in which they performed acts of heroism. Travelling the Earth over the centuries, they would wear many faces and encounter many heroes and villains in events both significant and mundane.
