Characters who are empowered by Juraian heritage are descended from the humanoid inhabitants of the planet Jurai. Due in large part to the presence of trees that can exceed the size of most metropolitan areas with the height of their trunks and the breadth of their canopies, Juraian culture is comparatively dominated by the aesthetics of both living plants and wood as a material.

Juraians live exceptionally long lives compared to most other species, easily exceeding several centuries (or a millennium with medical enhancement) before passing. Their society is dominated by the four Imperial houses (Masaki, Kamiki, Amaki, and Tatsuki) whose members bond with Royal Trees descended from the incarnate goddess Tsunami; after bonding, these trees become the center of spacefaring vessels that may be controlled with devices called Keys formed from the resin and wood of the tree in question. Beyond this bond, Juraians have a significant rate of metagene powers at approximately 20% of the population; this number is often mistakenly assumed to be higher due to the inobtrusive nature of Juraian technology.

The reputation of Juraians in the greater galactic society is fraught with controversy in spite of their strong connection to the institution of the Galaxy Police, as the original settlers of the planet were the membership of a powerful guild of space pirates. This history is still fresh in the memories of the Guardians of Oa and the survivors of the Moon Kingdom.

Recently, it has come to light that the presence of the former Prince Yōshō on Earth for the past seven centuries has resulted in a significant percentage of the population of Japan (as well as areas with large populations descended from Japanese expats, such as California and Brazil) possessing Juraian heritage.
