Characters with meta-powers have unlocked an innate genetic potential to manifest super-powers under traumatic physical, mental, or spiritual stress. As these abilities are distinct from the general population and dependent on circumstances, the presence of an inactive meta-gene neither guarantees an individual will unlock powers, nor predicts the nature thereof. However, there is evidence that one or both parents having developed powers through other means during life may cause an individual to be born with similar powers due to the influence of those abilities on the metagene.

At present, the human population of Earth has a 12% incidence of meta-genes, while the general Oni population has an 88% rate, and the Juraian population has roughly a 20% rate.
