"I remember one time I asked my father why. What made Gotham so special? And my father, he looked down at me, and he said... '...some places just have a hunger about them, son. And you either feed them what they want... or you stay far, far away.'"

Born to acrobatics, Dick was the son of the famous performance pair, 'the Flying Graysons'. Unfortunately, it was not to last; when mob boss Tony Zucco came to suspect that his wife Meili's daughter was the result of a brief relationship with John Grayson from before John and Mary became a couple, he had the Graysons targeted for murder.

Overcome with grief, young Dick was driven to pursue revenge; having been in the audience that night, Bruce Wayne took him in as a ward to steer his pain in more productive, healing directions. Eventually discovering Bruce's secret and joining him as the first Robin, Dick spent years as a teenage sidekick, solo superhero, and eventual founding member and leader of the Teen Titans.

Bright Knight
Eventually striking out on his own as an adult hero, Dick took on the identity of Nightwing following a conversation with Superman in which the Kryptonian related a story of a hero among his own people. Resettling in the nearby city of Blüdhaven, he became the city's protector both in and out of costume. His adventures and experience eventually found him a regular member of the expanded Justice League, recognized among its members as the representative of the League's second generation of heroes. During this time, he entered and eventually fell out of a relationship with his longtime ally Oracle; although the two remain close, he has more recently become attached once again to Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran, better known as the Titans' powerhouse heroine Stafire.

Homecoming
Reconnecting over time to the heroes of Gotham, Dick briefly took on the role of Batman while Bruce was injured, and later alongside his mentor and father figure as part of the Batman Incorporated project, watching over the Gotham metro area alongside Damian Wayn as the newest Robin while Bruce traveled and trained other heroes. Some months after Bruce's return to Gotham, Dick returned to the role of Nightwing—albeit formally adopted as a member of the Wayne family.

Secret Siblings
Dick's life briefly settled into a kind of stability for a time only to be once again shaken up by the discovery of the existence of his half-sister Melinda, soon after followed by learning that a trip by Bruce to Japan to reconnect with the family of an old teacher had uncovered yet another child of the original Batman: Saotome Ranma. Leaning on experience from training the next generation of heroes at the Titans Academy, Dick watched Ranma with the eye of Gotham's second-most experienced hero.

Family Man
A few weeks after Ranma's return to Japan, Dick looked out upon the world from Titans Tower, and made a decision: if it was time for the Bat Family to come together, then it was also time for its oldest son to start one of his own. For months, Dick planned, researched, and rehearsed with the help of his close friends and family... only to be taken by surprise when Koriand'r returned from a visit to Little Tamaran in Queens with a traditional Tamaranean marriage proposal.

Special Abilities:
  • Acrobatics: Dick is arguably the single most nimble and mobile member of the Batfam, if not the greatest trained acrobat on Earth.
  • Escapalogy: Due to the combination of his training under Bruce and his existing flexibility and agility, Dick's ability to escape restraints and captivity is among the greatest of humanity, even exceeding superpowered allies like the Flash.
  • Disguise: like most of the family, Dick was trained by Alfred in the arts of disguise and character acting.
  • Genius Intellect: already bright and observant due to the importance of fast-thinking in his circus skills, Dick has been trained to an extremely high level of intellectual ability in numerous fields, including computing, automotive and electrical engineering, forensic sciences, and criminology.
    • Multilingualism: Dick is a native speaker of both English and Vlax Romani, as well as having studied to fluency in American Sign Language, Cantonese, Farsi, German, Italian, Japanese, Kikuyu, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Tamaranean
  • Martial Arts: while emphasizing aikido and escrima, Dick has trained to a level of martial arts skill that allows him to best opponents on the level of Ra's al-Ghul or Deathstroke, and at his peak he can fight to a standstill against Cheshire and his sibling Cassandra. His experience additionally includes boxing, capoeira, hapkido, jeet kune do, judo, jujitsu, karate, kung-fu, ninjutsu, sambo, savate, stick-fighting, and tae kwon do, although he lacks the familiarity with esoteric qi techniques of the likes of Ranma or Helena.
  • Peak Human Condition: outside of his acrobatic ability, Dick has trained to a level of strength, athleticism, and physical conditioning that exceeds Olympian standards. His stamina, reflexes, and attunement to his own body's senses grant him speed and reaction times that seem outwardly superhuman.
  • Nightwing Suit:
    • Escrima Sticks: Dick utilizes a variety of traditional and enhanced kali sticks and hanbo, including onces containing hollow grips loaded with gadgets.
    • Materials: the Nightwing suit is treated for fire and electrical resistance, as well as being made with reactive dyes that darken in low light levels to improve stealth. It places a higher emphasis on mobility than protection relative to the Batsuit, with lighter armor plating.
