Born to acrobatics, Dick was the son of the famous performance pair, 'the Flying Graysons'. Unfortunately, it was not to last; when mob boss Tony Zucco came to suspect that his wife Meili's daughter was the result of a brief relationship with John Grayson from before John and Mary became a couple, he had the Graysons targeted for murder. Overcome with grief, young Dick was driven to pursue revenge; having been in the audience that night, Bruce Wayne took him in as a ward to steer his pain in more productive, healing directions. Eventually discovering Bruce's secret and joining him as the first Robin, Dick spent years as a teenage sidekick, solo superhero, and eventual founding member and leader of the Teen Titans. Bright Knight Eventually striking out on his own as an adult hero, Dick took on the identity of Nightwing following a conversation with Superman in which the Kryptonian related a story of a hero among his own people. Resettling in the nearby city of Blüdhaven, he became the city's protector both in and out of costume. His adventures and experience eventually found him a regular member of the expanded Justice League, recognized among its members as the representative of the League's second generation of heroes. During this time, he entered and eventually fell out of a relationship with his longtime ally Oracle; although the two remain close, he has more recently become attached once again to Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran, better known as the Titans' powerhouse heroine Stafire. Homecoming Reconnecting over time to the heroes of Gotham, Dick briefly took on the role of Batman while Bruce was injured, and later alongside his mentor and father figure as part of the Batman Incorporated project, watching over the Gotham metro area alongside Damian Wayn as the newest Robin while Bruce traveled and trained other heroes. Some months after Bruce's return to Gotham, Dick returned to the role of Nightwing—albeit formally adopted as a member of the Wayne family. Secret Siblings Dick's life briefly settled into a kind of stability for a time only to be once again shaken up by the discovery of the existence of his half-sister Melinda, soon after followed by learning that a trip by Bruce to Japan to reconnect with the family of an old teacher had uncovered yet another child of the original Batman: Saotome Ranma. Leaning on experience from training the next generation of heroes at the Titans Academy, Dick watched Ranma with the eye of Gotham's second-most experienced hero. Family Man A few weeks after Ranma's return to Japan, Dick looked out upon the world from Titans Tower, and made a decision: if it was time for the Bat Family to come together, then it was also time for its oldest son to start one of his own. For months, Dick planned, researched, and rehearsed with the help of his close friends and family... only to be taken by surprise when Koriand'r returned from a visit to Little Tamaran in Queens with a traditional Tamaranean marriage proposal. | ||||||||
