"Because I, of all people... have to believe that a bully can become a teammate... a friend... a hero."
While Superman was temporarily deceased, an experiment by Dr. Omen of the Chinese Ministry of Self-Reliance captured a portion of his ambient qi and infused young Kong Kenan with many of the Kryptonian hero's powers. Joining the Ministry's answer to the American cultural imbalance of the Justice League, Kenan became the "New Super-Man" alongside Wang Baixi, Robinbot, and Peng Deilan. Over the course of his early career as a hero, Kenan learned that his own father was the revolutionary antihero Flying Dragon General, while Doctor Omen herself was actually his birth mother—long thought deceased after she abandoned her cover in her former husband's revolutionary cell by faking her death.

Coming to terms with his heritage and his powers alike through training under the martial arts master known only as I-Ching, Kenan was heartbroken when his teacher was slain by the man's own twin brother, the evil All-Yang. Following the guidance of I-Ching's ghost, Super-Man used his powers to absorb All-Yang into himself and take on the twins' role as this generation's living embodiment of the balance between light and dark.

As Kenan trained to master his own impulses along with his powers and find a balance between the bully he had been and the hero he hoped to be, the Justice League of China struck out on their own and chose to act seperately from the Ministry of Self-Reliance, going vigilante and facing opposition not only from supervillains and alien invaders, but representatives of their own government like the Green Lantern Corps of China. Amidst all of this, his group of allies grew to include Avery Ho—the Flash of China—and North Korean defector Ahn Kwang-Jo, AKA Dragonson—the Aquaman of North Korean. Most recently, a budding romance between himself and Avery has run into conflict due to a lingering mutual attraction to Dr. Omen's assistant Mingming, as well as Kenan's crush on reporter Laney Lan.

Special Abilities:
  • Embodiment of Yin and Yang: following the death of his martial arts master I-Ching and the defeat of I-Ching's twin brother All-Yang, Kenan has taken on their roles as the current era's embodiment of the principles of Yin (darkness/cold/chaos/inaction) and Yang (light/heat/order/action). By meditating, he can access the wisdom of both I-Ching and All-Yang, and draw on a variety of mystical powers of qi manipulation, including:
    • Yang Amplification: deliberately unbalancing himself in favor of yang qi supercharges Kenan's Kryptonian powers, but severely limits his control over his own emotions.
    • Yin Amplification: purposefully letting his qi become unbalanced in favor of yin turns Kenan immaterial, allowing him to phase through matter and energy alike, deliver disrupting shocks from his fingertips. Overusing this power deadens his emotions, and can draw him into the realm of ghosts.
  • Kryptonian Qi Manipulation: Kenan's core powers result from an infusion of Superman's Kryptonian qi, organized around the eight trigrams of the bagua. By directing his qi in sequence, he can attain a level of power equal to a mature Kryptonian with years of exposure to a yellow sun:
    • Kryptonite Vulnerability: exposure to Kryptonite suppresses Kenan's Kryptonian qi, but is not as immediately lethal as it would be for a full Kryptonian.
    • Trigram 0, Kūn: by focusing his qi in his stomach, Kenan can call upon Kryptonian Invulnerability.
    • Trigram 1, Gèn: pushing his qi into his hands allows Kenan to access Super-Strength, including superhuman leaping ability.
    • Trigram 2, Kǎn: collecting qi in his ears unlocks Kenan's Super-Hearing.
    • Trigram 3, Gèn: channelling his qi into his thighs grants Kenan X-Ray Vision, including a 'penetrative' sight that allows him to see through magical illusions.
    • Trigram 4, Zhèn: pooling his qi in his feet gives Kenan Super-Speed, temporarily accessing the Speed Force and allowing him to perform feats similar to the Flash, such as altering the speed at which his body's molecules vibrate to phase through matter.
    • Trigram 5, Lí: letting his qi flow to his eyes releases Kenan's power of Heat-Vision.
    • Trigram 6, Duì: drawing qi into his mouth lets Kenan use the power of Super-Breath, including exhaling hurricane-force winds or causing moisture in the air to turn into solid ice.
    • Trigram 7, Qián: finally, bringing his qi to his head lifts Kenan into the air with the power of Flight.
